WHAT A FIRST VISIT TO OCFA LOOKS LIKE

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

  • Preparing for your appointment in advance will help ensure, accuracy in your paperwork without feeling rushed and a timely appointment.

  • For the most enjoyable experience you should consider familiarizing yourself with our office's location, and printing out and filling out the above packets ("New Patient Packet"and "Welcome Packet and Notices") before your visit.  Also having your drivers license, insurance card, social security number and copay ready will speed you through the intake process.

    • It is best to show up for your first visit 30 minutes early if you have not filled out the paperwork ahead of time or 10 minutes early if you have already filled out the new patient paperwork.

RECEPTION ENCOUNTER

  • When you first walk in you will be welcomed by the openness of our modern office and abundant natural light from our many large windows.

  • After being greeted by the receptionist you will sign in.  The receptionist will then guide you through the new patient intake process.

    •  The new patient intake process includes:  Completing the new patient paperwork and signing our office policies and notices.  The receptionist will answer any questions you may have at this point and then they will scan in your drivers license and insurance card.  They will then collect any copay required by your insurance.

ASSISTANT ENCOUNTER

  • Addressing you by name one of our assistants will then introduce themselves to you with a smile and guide you to one of our 3 comfortable exam rooms.  They will then review your paperwork with you and ask you questions to better understand the problems your having with your feet or ankles.

  • They will then either take you to get x-rays or have you remove your shoes and socks in preparation for your encounter with Dr. Pedersen.

  • The assistant will then discuss your issues and concerns with Dr. Pedersen prior to your consultation.

ENCOUNTER WITH DR. PEDERSEN

  • Upon entering the room, Dr. Pedersen will introduce himself, get to know you, and get a firm understanding of your condition and concerns.

  • Dr. Pedersen will not only ask some additional questions prior to your exam, he will also listen intently to any additional information or concerns you may have.  You will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of time Dr. Pedersen will spend with you.

  • Dr. Pedersen will then perform a thorough exam of your feet and ankles and may also watch you walk.

  • After your exam, Dr. Pedersen will explain your condition in detail and will counsel with you on all the various treatment options.  Dr. Pedersen will consult with you on both conservative and surgical treatment options, and together you will decide what is the best treatment option for you.  Most patients will heal with conservative treatments alone and surgery is considered as a last option.

  • Before Dr. Pedersen leaves the room he will ask if you have any other questions or concerns.  Dr. Pedersen wants you to have a firm understanding of your condition and the treatment options before leaving the room.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

  • After your visit with Dr. Pedersen, the assistant will dispense informational handouts, dispense any medical equipment prescribed by Dr. Pedersen and send any prescriptions for medicine to your pharmacy.

  • The assistant will then hand you a "Patient Check-out" form which you will take to the receptionist.  This form prevents any confusion at check-out.  When you hand this form to the receptionist they will know exactly when Dr. Pedersen would like to have you return for a follow up appointment and what type of appointment should be scheduled.  They will also know what products Dr. Pedersen may have suggested for your quick recovery, so they can better serve you with confidence that you are receiving the correct prescribed product.

  • The receptionist will then schedule your next appointment, if needed, hand you an appointment card with the date and time of your next appointment and dispense any products you may need.

  • The receptionist will then bid you a very warm "good day" and you can then begin down the road to recovery with confidence, knowing you received the best treatment possible.
